Skills Based Learning Opportunities

Sno-Isle Skills Center, A Technical High School, Mukilteo School District
Available for juniors and seniors. Information available through high school counseling office and IEP teachers.

Work Force Development Center (WFDC), Mukilteo 425/349-1800
High School students with disabilities earn an income while training and preparing for a career in the aero-space industry (parts manufacturing).  WFDC assists with job placement at Boeing, BF Goodrich, and parts manufacturing companies. Call direct, or see your counselor/IEP manager for an application

Lake Washington Technical Academy formally Otteson High School, offers eligible high school juniors and senior students, ages 16 to 21, the opportunity to concurrently train for a career and earn a high school diploma. Lake Washington Technical Academy is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges and is a full-time high school program located on the campus of Lake Washington Technical College in Kirkland, WA.

Tech Prep College at your high school
Combines high school and college classes into a unified course of study, giving high school students a solid start in earning a community college certificate or degree. Tech Prep provides an opportunity to earn college credit while in high school and at a student’s own school. Easy steps to college credit! 1) Enroll in Tech Prep classes offered at the high school 2) Complete a Tech Prep application form. 3) Pay the application fee. 4) Earn a B or better grade in Tech Prep courses. Talk to your school’s Career and Technical Teacher.

Running Start - a partnership with local community colleges.
Provides an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to attend college courses while completing high school. Students cannot use Running Start for credit retrieval. See your high school counselor or IEP manager for an application.  Everett Community College , Edmonds Community College. Disability accommodations are available through the Disabled Students Services at the college (the link will take you to Post-Itt; Enter as a visitor and click on 'Colleges')

Work Experience Credit.
If employed, set an appointment with an IEP manager or counselor to explore credit options.

 

GED and Career Training Options:
Must be 16 and formally withdraw from MSD

Center for Career Alternatives
CCA offers small setting GED-prep classes designed to improve skills. Eligible students are encouraged to transfer into a college youth program (listed). BECCA, at-risk, IEP students, and Workfirst (TANIF) recipients accepted. Call for the next informational meeting.

Edmonds Community College's Career Access Program (EdCAP)
Opportunities for participants ages 16 to 20 to earn a high school diploma or GED while training for a career.

Everett Community College's Youth Re-Engagement Program (U3)
Educational opportunities with a strong connection to career development and professional, technical job training for out of school youth (16-20)

Shoreline Community College's Career Education Options Program
Students ages 16-20  go back to school and improve their employment opportunities

Job Corps
May enroll with or without high school diploma/GED. Students receive job placement assistance and $$ upon completion of schooling and career training. Must live on campus, maintain good attendance and good behavior.Call to attend an orientation: Jeremiah Sherwood at 425-673-3315, or Susan Swanson at 425/388-3062

Credit Retrieval and Specialized Program Placements

Nova Net
Monitored by an IEP manager or counselor. NovaNet can also be used to prepare for GED. Set appointment with building’s NovaNet Lab teacher, IEP manager and/or counselor.

Snohomish Discovery, PASS, and Northwest Regional Learning Center (NWRLC)
A Probation Counselor, courts, or school administration refer students. Talk to the students’ BECCA manager, Parole Counselor, high school counselor, IEP manager, or School Administrator to consider a referral.
